Where to go in November

Here are trip inspiration’s recommendations for places to go and things to do in November before Christmas Madness really starts…!

For Nature &Wildlife:
Tysford Fjord, Norway – to see killer whales (orca’s) gathering in their hundreds before winter sets in.

Chitiwan National Park, Nepal - single horned Asian Rhino (numbering around 400) and Tiger (numbering 150) spotting.  The weather is perfect at this time of year, although Feb to May is also good because the grass is shorter.  The best way to travel through the park is by elephant

For a Family Holiday:
London – see the Lord Mayor of London Parade which is a great fun day out. - OK this is not necessarily a reason to plan a visit UK just to see this if you live elsewhere, but if you happen to be there at the right time…. especially if you get grandstand seats!
This is a pretty good time to visit Orlando, USA for the theme parks as they are not too crowded (although you may want to avoid Thanksgiving!).  Arguably the best time to visit Orlando is October when American kids aren’t on holiday and the weather is ideal.

For Romantic Getaways / Honeymoons:
The Gambia - sunshine is guaranteed and it’s a relatively short flight from the UK
Vietnam - November is one of the cooler months here, but its still 25-30 degrees, and it’s the start of the driest time here.
Bahamas - it will be sunny, but with cooling trade winds.  Some top class luxurious accommodation and you can swim with dolphins too.

For Sight Seeing and Culture Vultures:
Thailand - In addition to great weather in most parts of the country there are many events occurring in November - Surin Elephant Round Up, Lopburi Monkey Banquet & River Kwai Week.

For Adrenaline Junkies:
Sand Yachting in Le Crotoy, France as this is when the winds are at their strongest

For a City Break:
Venice, Italy - is quite beautiful in the winter months (and not smelly either!).  November’s weather shouldn’t be too cold and the crowds are OK too.
New York, USA - for some early Xmas shopping, although I was a little disappointed with the gifts available when I went.  Possibly better for shopping for yourself – especially branded goods such as jeans and trainers.

For Music Lovers:
Barcelona, Spain - International Jazz Festival – one of Europe’s premier jazz events.  Herbie Hancock is playing in 2008
Oman / Muscat - Muscat Oud Festival - for something a little different as this festival celebrates Arabian Lute (symbol of Arabic music)

For Foodies:
Abbeyville, USA – for the Giant Omelette Festival if you like your omelettes large and communal!!  You will also find music and dance, arts and crafts
Alba, Italy - for the wonderful Truffle Festival.

For Something a little different:
Visit Ottery St Mary, Devon, UK – for the Burning Barrels Festival where locals carry flaming barrels on their backs while running (staggering more like!) through the streets.

Go to Mixiquic in Mexico – for their spooky Day of the Dead Celebrations

For ‘Celeb’ Spotting:
American Music Awards (AMA’s) – in 2003 these awards moved from Jan to November.  Obviously they represent an opportunity to see your favorite bands and singers.  The event is held at the Nokia Theatre in downtown LA, but is also broadcast live.  Some tickets for the show are made available to the public.

Not Recommended in November:
Bermuda – it can be cold and windy at this time of the year
USA - at the end of the month because of Thanksgiving (4th Thursday in November) flights may be booked well ahead and some things will be crowded, with a few exceptions – Las Vegas can be very quiet.  Of course you may go to participate in Thanksgiving which is a different matter entirely!
