Unusual Camping – Yurts on Isle of Wight
Want an unusual, eco-friendly, but comfortable camping holiday? The Really Green Holiday Company have set up three luxury Mongolian-style yurts (and two bell tents) in the Afton Park apple orchard at Fairwater Bay on the Isle of Wight.

Yurts are more spacious than regular tents, with solid wood floors, a wood-burning stove, lanterns and pine furniture. There are two family yurts that are 16ft in diameter that will accommodate up to 5 (on a double bed, a sofa bed and a single fold-away bed) and a smaller yurt sleeping 2-3 (a double bed and fold-away). The 16ft bell tents have low beds, ethnic furniture and sheepskin throws, and have either a stove or gas heater. All are equipped with tea and coffee making facilities.
The eco aspects of the site include (apparently comfortable) compost toilets, solar and wood-burning stove powered showers – the wood comes from sustainable woodland. There are bbq’s for outdoor cooking and an undercover, communal cooking and eating area.

Guests are encouraged to re-cycle and shop from the onsite farm shop supplying local, organic produce. For those who prefer not to arrive by car the really green holiday company will organise green transport options with a free pick up service from the local ferry port.
You can pay extra to have a continental breakfast delivered to your yurt. A week’s stay costs between £195 and £545 depending upon the size/type of tens and the time of year. You can also book a week-end and mid-week stays.
