Ultimate Valentine Getaways

If you want to whisk your loved one away for a romantic break ‘a-deux’ then here are a few ideas for you to consider.

Venice Carnival
Take her (or him) to one of the masked balls at carnival time in this most romantic of cities.  Best still get there by the Venice Simplon Orient Express.  The Al Ponte Antico Hotel comes top of Tripadvisers list or try the wonderfully discrete Hotel Cipriani and Palazzo Vendramin

Egypt
February is one of the best times to visit Egypt as it’s not too hot.  Obviously great for history buffs and I can thoroughly recommend the short (usually 3 day) Nile cruises and the Oberoi Hotel in Aswan.

Dubai
Only a few hours flight from the UK, you can shop for wonderful duty free jewellery and stay at the recently opened Atlantis Hotel.

London
If you don’t want to travel too far how about a pamper week-end at the ultra modern Grove Hotel just outside London.  They have 3 restaurants to choose from,  Their special Valentines packages for 2009 include a hard back copy of ‘Love Letters of Great Men’ and some home made chocolates.  There is also an extensive range of extra’s you can choose from including a fireside champagne afternoon tea (£70), candles and champagne in the room with rose petals strewn on the bed (also £70) and large bouquets of flowers.  There are 3 restaurants in the hotel and I can vouch for Sunday lunch / brunch in the excellent Glasshouse restaurant.

Ireland
Why not try the very chic G Boutique Hotel designed by Philip Treacy (the famous milliner).  Fabulous modern interiors and of course a spa in the centre of Gallway.

India
Book a stay at the famous Taj Lake palace Hotel in Udaipur in the middle of Lake Pichola where the James Bond movie Octopussy was filmed.  It does get booked ahead for months so you’ll probably be looking at a stay in valentines 2010 if you are booking now

Bali
Four Seasons in Sayan is one of my absolute favorite places to stay and relax.  The grounds are beautiful, food exquisite and spa treatments faultless so there’s no need to step outside the hotel.

Getting Hitched?
If you want to take your valentines escape a stage further and actually slip a ring on her finger then Las Vegas is probably one of the best places to go.  With hundreds of wedding chapels to choose from and you can celebrate after wards with a gondola trip in the Venetian Hotel.  Personally – I’d stay at the Mirage Hotel or if money is no object the Ballagio.  Check out this article for where to stay in Vegas

Want an exclusive hideaway with only room enough for two? Then try one of the following:
The Crane Hotel in the Netherlands to dangle above the crowds
Glass Igloo Hotel, Finland to see the northern lights from your bed!
Udder (or Otter) Hotel under a lake in Sweden
