19th to 22nd July 2008 will see the 34th Trowbridge Village Pump festival.
This music and entertainment festival takes place at Stowford Manor Farm in Wiltshire, situated close to Farleigh Hungerford Castle. It started out focussing on folk music but has broadened to include many different forms of music such as rock and roll, jazz and roots. Previous performers include the legendary Stephanne Grapelli, Suzanne Vega and The Waterboys, and the 2007 line-up includes the Levellers, Hot House Flowers and Joe Brown.
Sponsored by Wadworth Brewery for the last seven years there will be the obligatory beer tents (usually 3) in addition to many different trade stalls selling food from around the world and a myriad craft stalls.
Perhaps one of the biggest draws of the festival is its family ‘friendly-ness’. They have a fantastic resident clown who walks among the tents in the morning summoning children like a modern pied piper. Off the children trot to spend hours being entertained, with their own dedicated children’s tent where they can learn circus skills, watch puppet shows such as Punch and Judy, see magic, and join in dance and music sessions. Meanwhile the parents can chillout with a beer, listen to music or even catch-up on kip with a lie-in in the knowdge that their children are having great fun without a tv set or computer games!!
The Sessions Tent holds instrumental lessons, poetry sessions, sing-along and chorus sessions and there are 3 music stages (all in marquees). For the grown-ups, in addition to the music and the beer you can get involved in yoga, dance and different workshops and a quiz.
A 4-day festival ticket is £85 per person if you buy it before 1st July, thereafter its £95. Under 10’s go free and 10-15 year olds are half price. Camping and parking are free and the festival is extremely well organised and even has an ATM on site! You can get tickets via http://www.bristolticketshop.co.uk - go on....it would be rude not to go!!
