Naturist Kefalonia, Greece

The enchanting island of Kefalonia (Cephalonia) is the largest of the seven islands in the Ionian Sea. The eastern shores are gentle, while those on the west or rocky and precipitous and it’s the most mountainous Island of the Ionian. It’s a green Island, with lovely forests, citrus, olive, and fruit trees plus vines.

As far as I am aware there is only one naturist resort on Kefalonia….if you know of others please leave a comment so that we can investigate and add it/them to our list.

The naturist resort of Vassaliki is Greece’s newest naturist resort. It is run by an English couple and is just a 15-minute drive from Kefalonia airport and 10 minutes away from Argostoli with it’s good selection of local shops, supermarkets and choice of restaurants and bars.

Small is beautiful, Vassaliki comprises of 11 well appointed apartments, most with balconies or terrace with sea views. All have air conditioning, and fully fitted kitchens, shower rooms and living space. All rooms include bed linen, hand and bath towels and tea towels. Cleaning equipment, washing up liquid and toilet rolls are included in the price

Vassaliki Amenities:

  • Volleyball court
  • Boule court
  • Self catering – but there is a pool bar, and under cover dining area offering hot and cold freshly prepared bar snacks all day, for breakfast and lunch, alcoholic and soft drinks, plus ice creams are also available.
  • A BBQ is held each week at a nominal cost
  • Meze night, take a stroll to one of the local tavernas, where you will be introduced to the delights of Geek cuisine, wine and beer, again a nominal charge
  • An on site masseuse offers various massages at a resonable charge

Other things you can do include:
- Take a naturist power boat rip to a secluded area for snorkelling – have lunch (textile) at a beach taverna (extra cost)
- For a more leisurely day, climb on board an Oceanis 393 yacht for a relaxing day with lunch included (extra cost)

Vassaliki is short, ten-minute drive from the Avithos/Klismata beach that has a large part used by naturists.  Or if you are fit it’s about a one hours walk along country tracks.

Some places to visit on this lovely Island:
imageLourdas Beach

- The stunning bay of Lourdas – one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe
- Take a boat trip through the cave of Melissani – magical
- Visit the Drogarati Cave with its’ superb stalactites and stalagmites – part of which has been converted into a concert hall because of it’s fine acoustics
imageDrogorati Cave

- A lot of the original lovely buildings were destroyed during the 1953 earthquake, so take trip to the beautiful little town of Fiscarda – it’s at the northern tip of the island, and certainly worth the journey, it’s one of the most enchanting places in the Greek Islands with a very pretty harbour and wonderful views of bays and Ithaca
- Drive round the island and dip down to charming hamlets with their small tavernas and tiny bays.
- The southern tip has many resorts and beaches to explore – some commercialised, others laid back and unspoiled
- Visit the beach at Xi, furthest to the west – quite a long trip but with its red sand and being totally unspoilt is worth a visit.
- Visit the capitol – Argostili is wonderful for shopping, it was rebuilt after the earthquake, well laid out, with a lively harbour and tree lined avenues.

Kefalonia is a beautiful Island, with something for everyone…don’t forget to read Captain Corelli’s Mandolin before you visit, although fiction it is a wonderful book and paints an evocative picture of the island leading up to the 2nd world war and the recovery thereafter.
