Naturist Crete

If you are a naturist and contemplating visiting Crete – you will certainly be spoilt for choice regarding naturist tolerated beaches. The majority of naturist beaches are on the southern part of the Island (please let us know if you find others in different regions) Officially naturism is only allowed in a few licensed areas, but there are many remote, quiet coves and beaches on Crete where you can get an all over suntan. Use your discretion and observe ‘no nudism’ signs when they appear – often at weekends and during July and August when a lot of Greeks make use of the beaches and you will be fine.

If you are looking for a Naturist hotel on Crete why not stay at the Hotel Vritomartis. This beautiful Hotel is family fun, with good facilities and standards; situated on a remote spot a little way from Chora Stakion with it’s unspoilt coastline and high mountains. You choose between either a room in the hotel or a bungalow in the grounds.

Naturism is required is required by the pool and on the beach, however none of the indoor areas are naturist. The road from the hotel to the beach is not textile as locals use it.

- Several restaurants, souvenir shops, supermarkets at Chora Sfakion (hotel shuttle bus several times a day)

If you would rather not stay at a ‘dedicated’ naturist hotel and prefer to be independent here a few other recommended beaches in the area for you to explore. Many tour operators go to this region of Crete, all with small hotels, apartments and villa’s in their brochures.

Paleochora – a delightful unspoilt town, naturists use part of the long sandy beach at the far end to the right as you look at to sea. You can set you watch by the wind that appears at about 16.00 each day! Not exactly a ‘private’ beach but very good.

Sougia – a small picturesque village, with no large hotels, naturists use the eastern end of the stony beach.

Agia Roumeli
– go away from the main beach and head east across the Samaria River

Agios Pavlos – this is about an hours walk east of Agia Roumeli, where you will find a very long and nearly deserted beach

Glykarena – about halfway between Loutro and Hora Sfakion you will find a wonderful beach

Kosmos – to the north of Matala you will find one of the beast beaches for naturism on Crete – take care, as this is a nesting site for sea turtles.

Do consider hiring a car, there is so much to see on this island, stunning scenery, a vast amount of history and lovely villages all waiting to be explored.
