Naturism in North of England’s Eden
Yes another Eden; another paradise opening up it’s portals for Naturists. Link to Eden Project Article for detail on naturism at the Eden Project in Cornwall.
This new venue for Naturism is being held at The Tropical World complex in Roundhay Park, Leeds, and will open for one day on Saturday 20th September 2008 from 7pm – 10.00pm for those who want to combine nature with naturism. Though of course, you don’t have to be a naturist to visit at any other time!
Tropical World was actually created 10 years prior to its more famous ‘southern’ cousin, and boasts the UK’s largest collection of tropical plants outside Kew.
So, what does it have to offer visitors?
First and foremost….the complex is self contained and screened off – so no peeping toms!
The indoor area’s are warm……..needed for the plants and animals….in fact many ‘textile’ visitors find it too warm when clad– silly lot – take them off!
Butterfly House; See between 30-40 varieties of butterflies, living among flowering plants, some of them with huge wing spans. The species are always changing as they emerge through their various stages of development. Bridges cross ponds where you can see Koi Carp – one 26” long, Tilapias, Turtles and other sea life. Also in this area are aquariums containing various other species of fish.
Amazon Tank; Some of the varieties you will see include, Niger Catfish, and relation of the Piranha.
Australasia House; Is home to a huge variety of plants, a fern lined winding path takes you past a waterfall (that you can stand under), terrapins swim in the pool, and truly tranquil area.
Creature Corner; Is for you if you like snakes, mice, lizards, tortoises and reptiles/
Amazon/South American house; Sticky, moist heat, with lush vegetation, and species of birds
Dessert House; As you would expect, dry and arid, with plants, animals, and birds that live in that environ, including, Weaver birds, Meerkats, and cacti. This leads through to the Nocturnal Zone – adjust your eyes to spy the variety of creatures here – be prepared to duck as the bats fly and swoop in this area! Then down to the Amazon area to see Orchids among the jungle foliage, plus ducks, macaws and Golden Lion Tamarinds.
There is a brand new café/restaurant with ample seating….(bring a towel to place on the seats) if you fancy something to eat and drink.
Enjoy, and do let us know your opinion of this new venue.
