Moving hotel – Exploranter
Do you enjoy holidays ‘on the move’? But nowadays the idea of pitching your tent or pulling a caravan too much hard work– or do you find hours cooped up in a coach for days on end tedious….plus having to unpack each night in a different hotel, and being up at the crack of dawn each morning to pile back onto the coach exhausting. Yet you still like the idea of exploring a county by road. Well, here’s a wonderful and novel concept – a hotel that travels!
The Exploranter is a Hotel on wheels, operating in Brazil, Chile Argentina and the Andes - with routes going into Patagonia, Atacma, Patanai plus some other less traveled places.
Trips vary from 1 week to 22 days. They can be customised for private parties with themes such as horseback riding, hot air ballooning, off road rally and many more, just use you imagination and contact the company for an experience of a lifetime!
The hotel is equipped with hot showers, kitchens, 28 beds, and leather seats. It’s renowned for it’s atmosphere and the opportunity to make new friends. The 25-ton Scania truck and trailer can go on back roads to parts of counties that other trips would never take you to see. The owner Flavio once described his company as being “The antithesis of the pasteurised resort”. The enclosed top deck is furnished like a railroad car with reclining seats and tables – so sit back and enjoy the views, it’s a bit on the bumpy side – but so what a few bumps when the scenery is incomparable!
The main truck – named Flavio Romeo contains the kitchen equipment – stowed behind the passenger deck, sleeping areas and the three bathrooms are in the trailer – Juliet.
Meals are taken once the Exploranter comes to a halt, the side panels open up and a huge canopy is unfurled – creating the kitchen, living and dining areas. All of this equipment is stowed away during the journey – ingenious. Food; be prepared for the unexpected sometimes, and to put on a bit of weight as it’s always excellent.

If you choose the cheapest fair and journey you will be expected to help with the cooking and clearing up…however you can pay more and this covers extra crew members that will provide full service!
Who is for – everyone who has a sense of adventure, wants to explore unspoilt regions and enjoys camaraderie.
Who is it not for – don’t expect luxury accommodation, there is very little room in the sleeping accommodation…it’s cosy! Don’t take ball gowns or a tuxedo….storage space is a small locker that will hold a medium sized rucksack…however the cotton bedding and jumbo sized towels are superb. Expect lukewarm water in the showers – but hey, they are showers and you will be in the back of beyond! You will be asked to help keep the bathrooms clean….but who wants to use a dirty one!
