Madonna Inn, California

This honeymooners favourite hotel takes themed bedrooms to new heights! With 110 varied rooms to choose from you are bound to find something that amuses, entertains, or perhaps fullfils a fantasy! Some are quite garish for my taste with very busy wallpaper and carpeting (I wouldn’t want to wake up in one of those with a hand-over!!), other rooms are opulent (such as the oriental fantasy) and many have rock built waterfall-like showers, fireplaces and even room décor. Even the steak house restaurant has a gold-rush theme.
Some of the more interesting rooms are:
The Madonna Suite - a stone pathway leads to this ‘signature’ suite in the hill top unit and comes complete with a walk-in waterfall shower and sinks built from native rock.
The Caveman Room (below) – a grotto like room with solid rock floor, walls and ceiling, stained glass window and a rock shower cans bed draped in animal print.
The Yahoo room (not to be confused with yahoo.com) – but a room themed in cowboy-style with a ‘buckboard’ bed.
Pick and Shovel Suite – again western themed, with a large living room, rustic fireplace with a king bed, two double beds and three single beds – great for a large family!
This infamous hotel opened in 1958, has a spa and fitness centre, on-site bakery / pastry shop, has both a men’s store and ladies boutique and great gift shop. If you intend to visit log-onto their own website to pick out your favourite room before making a reservation.
