The French tourism ministry has established the ‘Famille Plus’ system which allocates the label to ski resorts based on the following 7 commitments:
- Entertainment and activities to suit all ages
- A price to suit everyone: from the youngest to the oldest
- Activities for children and adults, to enjoy both on their own and together
- A nearby medical service for those ‘under the weather’ days
- Children to be taken care of by professionals
- To take clients’ requirements and suggestions into account
The following resorts currently hold the ‘Famille Plus’ label:
In Grand Massif area:
Les Carroz Has beautiful scenery. 134 runs. Free passes for under 5’s, discounted passes for 5 – 15 year olds. Non skiing activities include snake sledging for children, ice rink, dog sledding for over 10’s
Samoens – Ancient village with classic alpine scenery. 133 runs (68 beginners, 51 intermediate). Free pass for under 5’s, discounted passes for 5 – 11 years old
Morillon – Only 55 km from Geneva airport and has traditional architecture. 129 runs (68 beginners, 49 intermediate). Free passes for under 5’s, discounted passes for 5 to 15 year olds, Non skiing activities include - Swimming pool, ice skating, archery and organised snow shoes walks
In Portes du Soleil area:
Les Gets – Mixture of luxury chalets and modern buildings. 30 runs (2 beginners and 28 intermediate). Free lift pass for under 5’s, discounted passes for other children. Non skiing activities include ice rink, sapaba (painting workshops), tobogganing, goat farm, swimming pool,
Morzine - An alpine market town and one of the more exclusive ski resorts. Little English is spoken here. Inghams have introduced pre-bookable Snowstar Clubs for childcare which takes babies from 3 months old. Non skiing activities include sports centre, cinema, snow shoe walking, ice skating, bowling alley, regular ice hockey matches.
Morzine
In Maurienne Valley area:
Aussois – 21 runs (11 beginners, 8 intermediate). Lift passes are discounted for children. Non skiing activities include dog sledding and ‘Devil’s Park (an adventure and cultural park among the woods). The day care centre takes children from 3 months to 5 years,
La Norma - is small and purpose built and has an emphasis on safety (the centre is traffic free), 27 runs (14 beginners, 11 intermediate). In April ski passes are free for under 12’s, otherwise free for under 5’s, and family passes are available. Non skiing activities include snow shoe outings and dog sledding.
Val Cenis – 39 runs (17 beginners, 17 intermediate). Lift passes are free for under 5’s and discounted for 5 to 12 year olds. Non skiing activities include dog sledding, tobogganing, ice skating, spa and yoga!
Valloire – 84 runs (17 beginners, 23 intermediate). Lift passes are free for under 5’s and discounted for 5 to 14 year olds. Non skiing activities – ice sculpture contest in January, ice skating, adventure park for kids, goat farm, donkey sledding.
Valmeinier – 83 runs (46 beginners, 31 intermediate). Lift passes free for under 5’s and discounted for 6 to 15 years old. Non skiing activities include ice skating and snow shoe outings.
In Mont-Blanc area:
Megeve – This is a large resort well known to the elite and had retained its Haute Savoie character despite modernisation. 164 runs. Lift passes free for under 5’s and discounted for 6 to 15 year olds. The large number of non skiing activities include adventure park, curling, ice skating, dog sledding, paintball, sports centre, swimming pool, ten pin bowling.
Megeve
Combloux – 63 runs (28 beginners, 28 intermediate). Lift passes – under 5’s free and discounted for 5 to 15 year olds. Non skiing activities include snow shoe outings, sledging and sleigh rides.
In Oisans area:
Vaujany – 123 runs (70 beginners, 36 intermediate). Lift passes discounted up to 13 years old. Non skiing activities include snow shoe outings, igloo building (during great north week beginning March), leisure centre with swimming pool, ice skating, tabogganing.
In Tarentaise area:
Peisey-Vallandry – Clustered around a baroque church and liked to Les Arcs. 32 km of runs. Lift passes free for under 5’s and discounted for 6 to 13 year olds. Non skiing actvities include snow show outings, dog sledding and horse drawn sleds.
Les Coches (Part of La Plagne) – 134 runs (90 beginners, 29 intermediate). Lift passes free under 5’s, discounted for 6 to 13 year olds. Non skiing activities include bob sleigh, snow shoe outings, quad biking.
