Only one hour from the centre of Amsterdam by car – so you could combine a stay with a visit to that vibrant city.

Ladies; are you looking for a treat for your other half (no, nothing like that, this is a family site)! Chaps, want to drop a few hints about an uplifting weekend away?

Then I may have the answer for you.

Hit the heady heights (this is not a place to go if you suffer from vertigo). Its silhouette dominates the skyline.

The crane is a private retreat for two. The engineering that has gone into its ‘refurbishment’ is incredible. You don’t have to scale the cranes lofty heights to get to the one and only room; the external ladders have been replaced by two modern lifts, one takes you to a platform between the cranes legs, the other zooms you up to the heart of the crane! The one and only bedroom is in the old machine room in the body of the crane – it’s now such luxurious boudoir that any up market designer hotel would be proud to show you.

It retains the existing observation windows with their industrial feel, but at the same time managed to make the room, warm, comfortable and inviting.

The latest audio equipment and flat screen have been installed; a luxury bathroom with a double shower, designer loo, huge armchairs and minibar completes the suite. But oh boy, it’s toys for boy’s time. Visit at any time of the year as there is both heating and cooling systems, the bed has a panoramic view through the rear wall and ceiling, A little staircase leads up from the bedroom to the cabin, with a chair and a stick. Hold your breath, push the stick to the right of left and sixty five of steel is at your command, giving you a panoramic 360 degree view all under your control! Watch the ships, see the lighthouse, there is also a patio on the roof behind a door, tread carefully, there is a solid railing, but it’s so high up, the world under you that you will ‘pussy foot’ like a baby as you walk around

DVD’s are supplied for your entertainment, but with your personal viewing platform high above the town – I doubt it will get turned on.  A fantastic breakfast is delivered to you via the internal lift.

The company who run this have a lifeboat and a lighthouse for you to stay in as well - articles on those to follow soon!
