OK, so we’ve ‘done’ snow igloos (great for freezing your bits off!), glass igloos (great for viewing Northern Lights) but how about metal ones?
The speciality of this place is possibly the best view of icebergs from a hotel room that you can get!
Situated on the west coast of Greenland on Disko Bay and 250 miles within the arctic circle, you will get views of the harbour, the town of Ilulissat (about a mile away which is good as you don’t hear barking dogs!) and of course the ‘bergs’.

Rumour has it the Fort Myers beach has the best sand in the whole world for the art of Sandsculpting.

Using a mixture of fine white sand, sugar and water artists create the most amazing works of art. The beach at Outrigger Beach resort is turned into a 3-D art gallery for four days.
Every year about 20 masters and amateurs compete in the event and the results are stunning, the imagination and artistry involved in creating the models deserve honouree degrees to be awarded.

Snow Igloos – of which about 20 are constructed annually for habitation between December through April. Pirates Week commemorates the times past when the Cayman Islands where the haunt of buccaneers and pirates – actually it’s not a week it’s 11 days…but who’s counting when you’re having such a good time.
This event has been taking place for the last 30 years and starts with the morning arrival - or is it the invasion - of the pirates on board a replica on a 17th century Spanish Galleon. Waiting on the dock is Grand Cayman’s governor – who, much to the delight of the tourist and locals is captured - and symbolically locked up for the week, so the pirates can take over the Island!

Most of us are aware of the various Ice Hotels throughout the world – which are truly amazing but - IGLU DORF (Igloo Village) – takes the experience to another level (or depth) depending on your point of view. There are 6 igloo villages - all in Ski resorts, four in Switzerland, one Germany, and one in Andorra.
What’s on offer, and how are they constructed?
Each village is constructed from scratch each year. Enormous balloons are inflated (not by blowing into them!) they are then covered in snow. All the igloo’s are connected by tunnels, viewed from the outside the village gives the impression of just being a huge pile of snow with a few entrances.
